Elanora SHS is proud to offer students a variety of ways in which they can excel in the classroom and community.
2023 Japan Trip
In September 2023, 34 students and 5 teachers embarked on an unforgettable school trip to Japan. It was a journey filled with rich cultural experiences, breathtaking sights and long lasting memories. We arrived in Osaka, journeyed near and far on the local trains and high tech shinkansen (bullet train) visiting a range of natural and historic locations before flying out again from Tokyo. It was a 10 day trip, stopping at Kyoto, Nara Deer Park, Hiroshima, Miyakejima, Tokyo and Yokosuka. Students had two fun filled days at Disneyland and Universal Studios. Every moment was an opportunity for learning and growth. Among the many highlights on the trip we also visited our sister school, Yokosuka Sogo High School, where students were paired with Japanese buddies and engaged in meaningful exchanges, deepening friendships and cultural understanding. The trip was not just about sightseeing; it was about fostering a global perspective for our students. With excitement already building, we are thrilled to announce another trip scheduled for September 2025, promising even more adventures and discoveries in the Land of the Rising Sun. Keep your eyes peeled.
2019 Borneo Trip
In 2019 a group of fantastic students from Elanora and Miami SHS completed a variety of humanitarian and conservation work in Borneo with Camps International.
During this expedition, students were confronted with the reality of living in a third world country and the reality of the issues that single-use plastic have on the world around us. This experience allowed students to be involved in a variety of activities to improve the living standards in rural and remote communities around Borneo. This included building a wall in a community centre; creating a concrete drainage system; picking up rubbish from community areas; clearing overgrown land and planting trees to support reforestation and wildlife diversity.
The students got involved in cultural activities such as bamboo dancing, gong playing, beading and traditional baking. Students also tested out their bi-lingual skills by singing in Malay to the village Chief.
By far, the highlight of the trip was the jungle – yes, it was massive! After 5 days and 4 nights of trekking, with some amazing scenery and stories to go along with it, we ended this epic journey the only way you can in Borneo: by meeting orang-utan - man of the jungle.
The enthusiasm that was displayed in all aspects of this trip is a testament to the students and how well we all worked as a team to get the best out of each other. This was a once in a lifetime experience and we all feel blessed to have shared this together.
