Purchasing a device

​​​​​​​A new device is not a requirement to be a part of our BYOD program at Elanora SHS. If your student has a device, then it is likely appropriate for use. If you have an existing device, and would like to check its suitability, then please email elearning@elanorashs.eq.edu.au.

Should you wish to purchase a device, the following information is provided to help you purchase a device that is suitable for learning and will last for a number of years.

Please note, that due to our mobile phone policy here at Elanora State High School, mobile devices (iPads etc) are not an appropriate device. 

Device Specifications:

The table below outlines the required specifications of a machine that would be suitable for our BYOD program​:

Android tablets, Chrome books and iPads are NOT accepted for our BYOD program.


​Minimum hardware requirements

CPU:
​Intel Core i5 or equivalent
Please note: At present, Snap Dragon or ARM processers are not supported within the EQ network.
RAM:
​8 GB Minimum
Graphics:
​Intel Built‐in graphics acceptable
Storage:
​320 GB HDD (or 128 GB SSD recommended)
Network:
Dual-Band Wireless: 802.11ac compatible built‐in. 
Ethernet adaptor recommended
Screen Size:
​13 to 15 inch recommended
1280 x 720 minimum resolution
11 inch minimum/15+ inch not recommended

Battery Life:
4.5 hour minimum battery life

Purchasing Portals:

Whilst the responsibility for purchasing a device for our BYOD programs lies with the parent and student, Elanora State High has gone to lengths to provide purchasing opportunities that provide devices (and attached service) that best suits our BYOD programs.

Below you can access vendors who already supply devices to Education Queensland schools and are offering arrangements that are similar to what we as a school receive when we purchase. You may wish to use these when purchasing a device for our BYOD program:
