Junior Dance Academy

The Junior Dance Academy commenced in 2014 and is available to students in Years 7, 8 & 9. Students study the Health component of Year 7 HPE whilst specialising in Dance within the practical component.

Students will focus on the styles of Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary and Lyrical dance over the year long course. Movement, performance skills and choreographic skills and terminology will be the focus in each dance genre.

Throughout the year, students will have access to various performance opportunities both within class and for an audience including the Gold Coast Eisteddfod and Elanora State High School’s Dance Night.

To apply for the Junior Dance Academy program, applicants are required to submit the application form and successfully complete the practical testing. Key criteria for entry into the program are:

  • School Reports – Academic, Behaviour, Attendance
  • Referee Report & Support from Primary School
  • Student’s personal goals
  • Practical Testing performance

Students’ progress is reviewed following each reporting cycle and students need to maintain satisfactory performance to retain their place in the program.
